Theme Class - Flow in Shibari
Improve Rope Handling, Interaction & Connection for More Meaningful Shibari Sessions
When you begin your journey into Japanese rope bondage, the focus is often on learning techniques and patterns. While mastering safe rope skills is essential, Shibari is ultimately about creating an intimate connection between two partners. Whether your dynamic is gentle or sadistic, playful or meditative, sensual or explicitly erotic, the ropes are only one part of the experience.
This workshop is all about finding your flow together.
You'll explore how to create a shared "tying bubble," even if you only know the fundamentals of Shibari. Through exercises in rope handling, body awareness, verbal communication, and non-verbal interaction, you'll learn how to express your intentions more clearly as both rope top and rope bottom.
Rather than focusing on reproducing patterns, you'll learn to tie from intention, allowing your creativity and unique energy to shape each session.
By developing fluent rope handling and more conscious communication, you'll learn to:
-
Explore why you want to tie—or be tied.
-
Express your intentions more clearly through rope, touch, movement, and communication.
-
Create emotionally richer experiences for both tops and bottoms.
-
Develop greater creativity and confidence while tying.
-
Move beyond technique toward genuine connection.
-
Communicate through your bodies as much as through words.
-
Play with rhythm, pacing, pauses, and silence during a tie.
-
Use all your senses to deepen the experience.
-
Introduce additional sensory elements into your rope play.
-
Experience new forms of intimacy and shared presence.

For whom?
This workshop is designed for couples and rope partners of all experience levels who already have a basic foundation in Shibari and want to deepen the quality of their rope sessions through improved handling, communication, and interaction.
You should have completed our Introduction to Shibari and Essentials 1: Floor Work workshops, or have acquired equivalent experience elsewhere.
You should be comfortable with:
-
Single-column and double-column ties.
-
Working with tension and reverse tension.
-
Basic frictions, including the half hitch, nodome, and yuki fix.
Most exercises will focus on floor work. However, most exercises can also be applied to partial suspension. If you choose to work with partial suspension, you should already be able to build safe, reliable uplines using a ring or bamboo hard point. Please note that assessing or reviewing the safety and quality of suspension lines will not be part of this workshop.
You will need 3-4 ropes.
